The Candidate:
You hold a degree, communicate clearly, and can explain English concepts in a simple and structured way. You are organised, positive, and keen to build practical experience in a secondary school before moving into teacher training or another education-based career.

Requirements

  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate. Roles involving regulated activity with children can require an Enhanced DBS check, and in some cases a Children’s Barred List check.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Experience working with children – Any relevant experience such as tutoring, mentoring, coaching or volunteering is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ secondary school in the Ward of Edgbaston has strong routines, supportive leadership and a collaborative English team. You will benefit from shared resources, practical guidance, and a clear structure for intervention, giving you the chance to make an impact quickly while building valuable school-based experience.
