Job Description
SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant

Could you be the consistent support pupils with Autism and complex needs rely on each day? Are you looking for practical primary SEN experience before moving into teaching, educational psychology, or clinical psychology?

*** SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 to July 2027
*** £85 - £101 per day
*** ‘Outstanding’ primary school, Wolverhampton
*** Work within the school’s SEN unit supporting Autism and Complex Needs

The Role:
Work within the school’s SEN unit, supporting pupils with Autism and complex needs through structured classroom support, 1:1 work, and small-group intervention. You will help pupils follow routines, access learning, regulate behaviour, and build confidence, while working closely with teaching staff and the SENCO to monitor progress. SEN teaching assistants support teachers to help children with disabilities and special educational needs, and schools are expected to use the SEND Code of Practice when identifying needs, putting support in place, and reviewing impact.

The Candidate:
You are calm, patient, and able to build trust through consistency and clear communication. You want meaningful school-based experience, you can stay composed in a busy primary setting, and you are interested in how structured support helps pupils with additional needs feel secure and make progress. This role would suit a graduate who wants relevant SEN experience before progressing into teaching or psychology-related training.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Career Goals – A desire to pursue a career in educational or clinical psychology.

The School:
This ‘Outstanding’ primary school in Wolverhampton offers the chance to build valuable SEN experience in a setting where structure, inclusion, and purposeful support matter. You will work as part of a specialist team within the SEN unit, gaining direct exposure to day-to-day SEND provision and the practical strategies schools use to support pupils with Autism and complex needs. Recent government SEND reform proposals also set out new investment in SEND training across schools, colleges, and early years settings, underlining the continued focus on improving support across the system.

How to Apply
Apply today with your CV to be considered for this SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant role. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to discuss next steps and arrange interview. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the high number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
