Job Description
Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant

Looking for school experience that maps to Educational Psychology or teacher training?

Use your psychology know-how to help pupils with Autism and ADHD learn with confidence.

*** Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £81 - £101 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
*** Support SEN pupils with Autism and ADHD

What you’ll do:
Provide tailored 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with Autism and ADHD. You’ll chunk tasks into clear steps, use visual timetables and consistent routines, and coach regulation and social-communication skills. Expect quick, focused interventions in core literacy/numeracy, brief progress notes, and tight feedback loops with the class teacher and SENCO.

Who you are:
A psychology (or related) graduate who communicates plainly, stays calm under pressure, and builds trust quickly. You follow support plans, keep boundaries fair and firm, and keep sessions brisk, purposeful, and child-centred.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear, confident written and verbal skills.
  • Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Strong interest in SEN, child development and pupil wellbeing.
  • Experience working with children – Any relevant experience (SEN support, mentoring, tutoring, volunteering) is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ Wolverhampton primary serves a diverse community and runs predictable routines that keep classrooms calm and purposeful. Inclusion is a genuine strength: the SEN team operates plan–do–review cycles, provides ready-made visual supports, and maintains access to regulation spaces for pupils who need a reset. Reading and core skills are whole-school priorities (robust phonics, guided reading in KS2, and small-step maths sequences). You’ll get a structured induction, labelled resources, weekly bite-size CPD, and coaching drop-ins with actionable feedback—so you can make impact quickly and develop a portfolio of evidence for EP or ITT routes.

How to Apply
Send your CV and include your availability, DBS status, and (if possible) two referees. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief call and an in-school interview/observation. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
